ABSTRACT |
Patients with diabetic foot ulcers are increasing rapidly as prevalence of diabetes is increasing. It is widely known that diabetes mellitus and diabetic foot ulcers are very closely related, but the detail relationship needs further research. We conducted a research of total 102 patients with diabetic foot ulcers from Jan. 2008 to Dec. 2011. We observed the age, sex, duration of the disease, associated diseases, depth and size of the ulcer, radiological evaluation of the ulcer, results of percutaneous transluminal angiography (PTA), neurologic symptoms, and occurrence of osteomyelitis by looking at the medical records. The mean age of the 102 patients were 60.84 and male to female sex ratio was 1.7 to 1. The overal amputation rate among diabetic foot ulcer was 33.3%. The 30 patients performed percutaneous transluminal angioplasty. Numerous researches on diabetic foot ulcers are still in progress and many methods that are helpful to treatment are suggested, but we have to face the fact that this field of study is not yet conquered. Therefore, it is considered that knowing the relationship between these two diseases and applying it to therapy would bring a much more effective and positive results.
